| At 9:10 PM an officer with the West University Place Police Department observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 5800 block of Buffalo Speedway, above the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted and upon making contact with the driver, a handgun was observed in plain view. | 21-0567 | Mail Theft | At 04:01 AM, an officer with the West University Place Police Department was dispatched to the 3700 block of Georgetown in reference to a suspicious person. The individual was located and was subsequently arrested for an outstanding warrant. An inventory of his personal property revealed the suspect to be in possession of multiple pieces of mail addressed to local addresses. A subsequent investigation confirmed that the suspect did not have the effective consent of the owner to be in possession of the mail. The suspect (James Wesley Derington) was charged with Mail Theft and transported without incident. | 21-569 | Unlawful Carry of a Weapon
| At approximately 9:47 AM, an officer observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the 6400 block of Buffalo Speedway with a defective license plate light. A traffic stop was conducted in the 5900 block of Buffalo Speedway. After further investigation, the officer discovered the driver to be in possession of marijuana and a handgun. The officer later discovered the passenger had an active felony warrant out of the state of Georgia. The driver was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and the passenger (Nateisha Qujionshea Earl) was placed in custody upon receiving warrant confirmation. | 21-0571 | Assault | An officer was dispatched to the 5300 block of Kirby in regards to a disturbance that had already occurred. After a further investigation, it was determined that there was an assault. The victim said that an unknown person assaulted them while they were waiting in line. A report was generated.

07/24/2021 | 21-0572 | Burglary of Building | An officer was dispatched to the 6700 block of W. College in regards to a burglary of a building that had already occurred. The victim said an unknown person(s) enter the building without their permission and had items stolen from the building. A report was generated.

07/25/2021 | 21-0573 | Possession of Drug Paraphernalia | At approximately 8:35 PM, an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 6400 block of Buffalo Speedway at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted in the 3100 block of West Holcombe. After further investigation, the officer discovered the driver to be in possession of a stolen handgun and marijuana. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and informed of the incident. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office declined all charges on the driver. The driver was issued a citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released from the scene without incident.

07/27/2021 | 21-0574 | Identity Theft | At 11:56 AM, an officer was dispatched to the West University Place Police Department for a case of Identity Theft. The victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to open fraudulent Verizon account.

07/27/2021 | 21-0576 | Possession of Drug Paraphernalia | At 10:16 PM, an officer with the West University Place Police Department observed a vehicle traveling northbound in the 6600 block of Buffalo Speedway with expired vehicle registration. The vehicle also failed to dim high beams within the required distance when meeting traffic. A traffic stop was conducted and after further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver was issued citations and released from the scene without incident.
