Recreation Center Improvements
In 2024, as part of the City's Facilities Master Plan, staff began exploring potential improvements to the Recreation Center facility. In early 2025, the department conducted a public survey for residents to provide input on potential improvements to the facility. Based on this feedback and usage data, the cardio and weight room and the racquetball courts were identified as priority areas for improvement. Since then, department staff have worked with architects, the Parks and Recreation Board, and the City Council to address the cardio and weight room first, while improvements to the racquetball courts are slated for further consideration in 2028.
At its meeting on February 23, 2026, the City Council approved the department's recommendation to renovate the second floor of the Rec Center to expand the cardio and weight room. Now, the department is seeking resident feedback to help shape the cardio and weight room experience! The image below reflects the existing equipment and the proposed equipment. Complete the feedback form and let us know if this hits the mark or if you'd like to see something else.
The feedback period will be open from Thursday, February 27, to Friday, March 27, at 11:59 pm.
In addition, the Recreation Center will host three informal opportunities for residents to come by and talk with staff and the fitness equipment provider about the proposed equipment.
- Thursday, March 5, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Thursday, March 5, from 12:30 p.m. To 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 24, from 5 p.m. To 8 p.m.
After the feedback period closes, the recommended equipment will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Board for consideration at their meeting on April 1, and a funding request will be prepared for the Friends of West U Parks Fund’s consideration.
