Proposed Recreation Center Improvements
Beginning in May of 2024, staff began investigating potential improvements at the West U Recreation Center. Based on citizen comments and usage, the cardio/weight room and the racquetball courts were identified as areas of priority. The Parks and Recreation Department partnered with a data collection consultant, OnPointe Insights, LLC, to conduct a survey for residents to provide input on potential improvements to the Recreation Center facility, as part of Phase 2 of the City’s Facilities Master Plan. The results are being used to help city leaders better understand the community’s needs, priorities, and concerns. The survey results were presented to the Parks and Recreation Board at the February 27, 2025, meeting.

PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT AREAS:
Area 1: Cardio/Weight room
The proposed plans would expand the cardio/weight room into what is currently the upstairs lobby. Staff are exploring alternatives to provide additional viewing area for swim and recreation classes.
Area 3: Racquetball Courts
In the proposed plans, the dividing wall in the racquetball courts would be removed to open up the space to use as a multi-purpose room. Staff looked into adding a pickleball court or adding three point lines for basketball and nether will fit into the space. This area is slated for further consideration in 2028 as part of the Capital improvement Plan (CIP).
Form more information on the proposed concepts, please contact Parks and Recreation Director Susan White at swhite@westutx.gov or 713.662.5894.
