Outdoor Event Series Lineup Announced

West University Place Parks and Recreation has announced the lineup for its annual Outdoor Event Series.  This year's event will cover three Friday evenings in April at Colonial Park, 4130 Byron St.  Performances will be held April 5, 12, and 26 beginning at 7 p.m.
April 5:  Texas Brass Ensemble:
Established in 1991 by trumpeter Darryl Bayer, the Texas Brass is dedicated to concerts in the South East Texas and Houston area.  They gained a huge following after multiple years of performing at the Houston International Festival.  The group particularly enjoys family-style concerts for Parks and Recreation programs such as this evening.  Texas Brass was one of the featured groups in the Rising Stars and Legends of Texas showcase Creighton Theater in historic downtown Conroe.
April 12:  The Crescent Circus:
Husband and wife duo, Nathan Kepner and Morgan Tsu-Raun fuse their expertise in magic and circus arts respectively to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience on stage.  Based out of New Orleans, they've brought magic, juggling, acrobatics, hula hoop tricks and more to audiences across the country.  Their original stage work has earned them six international titles, performances at London's prestigious Magic Circle Theater and an appearance on The Tonight Show.
April 26:  Houston Brass Quintet:
Made up of five Houston-area residents, the "HBQ" presents a repertoire made up of diverse genres — classical, jazz, and a little bit of funk.  With a focus on arts education, their favorite audience members are kids — because, as they say, "who else claps, sings and asks the best questions?"

Each evening's entertainment is family friendly and admission is free.

Easter Spring Festival
Welcome Spring at West U Easter Spring Festival and Arbor Day

Budding trees and warmer temperatures herald the coming of spring and two annual West University Place traditions — the celebration of the Parks & Recreation Easter Spring Festival and Arbor Day.  The two events are held together making for one perfect spring morning on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. — 11 a.m. at the Recreation Center fields, located at 4210 Bellaire Blvd.

The event is family-friendly and has something fun for everyone.  Children can enjoy bounce houses, a giant slide, an inflatable obstacle course, and mini-train rides, as well as activity booths, offered by community partners.  Bring you camera to take advantage of giant colored-egg selfie stations, snap a picture or two of the street performers, and of course, take photos with the Easter Bunny.  Remember to bring your Easter basket — as prizes, including those for the winners of the Di-Eggo Counting Contest, will be given out.

There is no better way to celebrate spring and especially Arbor Day than by planting a tree, and the West U Public Works Department urban forester will be giving trees away during the event.  Tree will be given out on a first-come-first serve basis.

For more information, contact the West U Rec Center at 713-662-7420.
