Planning & Zoning

The Planning Division is committed to providing and maintaining a quality living environment for the citizens of West University Place. This is accomplished by providing the City Council, the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA), and the Zoning and Planning Commission with accurate and dependable technical assistance required to make informed decisions. Staff also provides technical assistance to citizens, developers, and anyone inquiring about zoning and subdivision matters.


The Planning Division includes all urban forestry functions; provides planning, zoning, and development information to the public, processes zoning applications; and is a liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Zoning and Planning Commission.

Board Support

Staff provides support for these boards by preparing agendas, posting notices, recording meeting minutes, technical assistance, and ensuring compliance to city and state regulations. It is highly recommended for people seeking subdivisions, platting, and replatting of existing lots and amending plats, variances, and special exceptions to first obtain assistance from the Planning Division before applications are submitted.
