Household Hazardous Waste Voucher Program

The City of West University Place has negotiated with the City of Houston to allow West U residents to dispose of their items at Houston's facilities starting in December 2012. The program is offered to all West U residents. In order to participate, residents will need to request a voucher from the West University Place Public Works Department.

Requesting Vouchers

To request a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) voucher from the West U Public Works Department, please call 713-662-5839 or email Public Works for details.

Voucher Facts

• The vouchers cover the $75 fee otherwise charged by the City of Houston.
• Vouchers will be limited and dispensed on a "1st come, 1st served" basis.
• Total weight of materials not to exceed 100lbs
  • No individual item to exceed 50lbs
  • Individual household quantities only
  • No area wide or commercial quantities
  • HHW Materials: up to 100 pounds total weight
  • Paint: 25 gallons per visit
  • Tires: 5 tires per residence, no commercial vehicle tires

Claiming a Voucher

All vouchers must be claimed in-person at the West U Public Works office located at 3826 Amherst Street, during normal business hours (7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.).

• Chemicals: Crafts and Hobbies, Pool, Photography, Household
• Degreasers, drain cleaners
• Electronics: computer parts, monitor, printer, cell phones, TV, microwave (limit 2)
• Fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide, pest strips
• Fluorescent/CFL lights (20 count limit/voucher)
• Fuel (gasoline), kerosene, cooking oil
• Motor oil, oil filters, brake fluid, car wax, tires (limit of 2)
• Paint, spray paint, paint thinner, metal polish
• Power steering fluid, transmission fluid
• Propane 5-pound cylinders; helium tanks
• Solvents, turpentine, varnish, stains
• Styrofoam blocks
