Upon arrival, it was discovered that an unknown suspect called the victim stating a family member was in jail and needing bail money. The victim wired money to an unknown recipient, later discovering this was a scam and the family member was safe at home. |

During the traffic stop, it was discovered all occupants of the vehicle were minors and were in possession of alcohol and tobacco. All parties were cited and released to their guardians. |

Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the driver inside the vehicle, and it was discovered the individual displayed signs of intoxication. The occupant (Elvin Mejia-Velasquez) was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. The individual (Elvin Mejia- Velasquez) has no previous criminal history. |

It was discovered that an unknown suspect had called the victim stating that there was a warrant out for their arrest and that they could pay for it in Bitcoin. The victim proceeded to pay for the warrant via Bitcoin in gift cards, later discovering this was a scam. |
1/29/24 12:01 AM | 24-0043 | Traffic Stop | An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 7100 block of Buffalo Speedway on a vehicle for fictitious registration. Upon contact with the driver and through investigation, it was discovered the vehicle displayed multiple VINs returning to various vehicles inconsistent with the vehicle stopped. Harris County District Attorney’s office was informed of the facts but declined to take any charges against the driver. The driver was released from the scene with citations and the vehicle was impounded pending further investigation. |
