An officer was dispatched to the 6700 block of West Point Dr. regarding a minor accident where one of the vehicles fled the scene. Upon arrival and through investigation, the officer identified the fleeing vehicle and its driver. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained against the driver for failing to stop and give information.

Fraud

An officer was dispatched to the 2600 block of Wroxton in reference to a fraud incident that had already occurred. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the victim had received a phone call from an individual impersonating a police lieutenant, claiming the victim had multiple outstanding warrants.  The caller offered the victim the option to pay for the warrants to avoid arrest. The victim complied, making the payment via Bitcoin, later discovering it was a scam.

Tampering with a Government Record 

An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 6000 block of Buffalo Speedway. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer could smell an odor of marijuana emanating from or about the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed the discovery of marijuana, a loaded handgun, and a fictitious driver’s license. The driver, (EXPUNGED) was taken into custody and charged with tampering with a government record.

Drug Paraphernalia 

An officer conducted a traffic stop in the 5900 block of Buffalo Speedway. Upon contact with the driver, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana emanating from or about the vehicle. A probable cause research led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia.

Identity Theft 

An officer was dispatched to the West University Place Police Department in reference to an identity theft that had already occurred. Upon arrival, it was discovered an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal information to open credit cards without consent.

Virtual Gate  

Officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Weslayan regarding a virtual gate hit involving a stolen vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop where all occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident. Upon taking the occupants into custody, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A probable cause search led to the discovery of numerous drugs and a loaded handgun. Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle, who declined to pursue charges against the occupants for auto theft. The driver and passenger were taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance.  Both individuals have no criminal history.
