Give your workout a boost! New outdoor fitness stations have been installed at each of the four corners of the walking/jogging path surrounding the ball fields at the West U Recreation Center and will be available for public use beginning on Thursday, August 11. The Greenfields exercise equipment is weather-proof, galvanized and coated to protect it from the elements. Plyometric steps, sit-up benches, 4-person combo unit (squats, leg raises, stretches, chin ups/pull ups) and parallel bars were selected to provide a well-rounded workout and the ability for multiple people to exercise simultaneously on the units.
The freestanding equipment was funded entirely through the generosity of the Friends of West University Place Park Fund, Inc. According to Assistant Parks and Recreation Director and project manager Susan White, “Each station contains directions with detailed diagrams, and QR codes may also be scanned for additional information including a video demonstration. The exercise stations are a great way to add interval training to a workout.” The West University Place Recreation Center, located at 4210 Bellaire Blvd., is the first location within the city to feature outdoor exercise equipment.
