2/14/24: Good news! The renovations to the Recreation Center track are complete, and residents can now enjoy the improvements.
The City would like to extend special thanks to West U resident and volunteer Race Director, Michele Nezi Marvin and her family for spearheading this event for the past 13 years. In honor of their dedication to the community, the West U Recreation Center Track will be named ”The Marvin Family Track” from February 2025 to January 2026. Proceeds from the past four years were used to fund the entire project with no impact to taxpayers.
Please join us on Monday, February 17, at the Rec Center Track starting at 8:30 a.m. for a small celebration in honor of Michele and Paul Marvin. We encourage everyone to wear their Halloween Dash & Fun Run t-shirts!

12/20/24: We are excited to share that the track around the West U Recreation Center will receive improvements after the holidays. The improvements will replace the existing decomposed granite with a rubber surface material on the track, the trail behind the rec center, and at four exercise stations. Installation is expected to begin on January 2, and is expected to be complete by January 24, weather permitting.
Construction supplies will be staged in the gravel lot west of the track. When the crew is working on the east side of the track, parking may be limited in the area near the playground. Work is not expected to take place outside of quiet hours.
During the project, the track will be closed.
This project was made possible through the proceeds of the annual Halloween Dash and 5K Race, relieving taxpayers from the burden of the cost. The City would like to extend a special thanks to volunteer Race Director and West U resident Michele Nezi Marvin and her family for spearheading this event for the past 13 years. In honor of their dedication to the community, the West U Recreation Center Track will be named “The Marvin Family Track” from February 2025 to January 2026.
