The Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) is providing property owners who experienced physical damage to their property during Hurricane Beryl with the opportunity to apply for a temporary disaster exemption. This exemption could lead to a reduction in 2024 property tax rates for a portion of the appraised property value. Damages to trees or shrubbery are not eligible.
The disaster application, 50-312 Temporary Exemption for Property Damaged by a Disaster, can be found on the HCAD website, https://hcad.org/hcad-forms/hcad-all-forms/. The form should be mailed to HCAD using the address listed at the top of the form. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 21.
