1/17/24: On September 25, 2023, the West U City Council approved the Friends of West University Parks Fund, Inc. (Friends), expenditure of $75,000 to Burditt Consultants. Construction documents were prepared, and the project was formally bid. The City received a total of nine (9) bids. Based on bid submissions, the consultants and staff recommend the City select the second lowest bidder, Jerdon Enterprises, LLC, as their experience is the most commensurate for this project.
At its January 10 meeting, the Friends Board unanimously approved an amount not to exceed $910,000 to fund the construction expenditures consistent with City Council approval. City staff will be overseeing some direct project costs including painting the playground equipment, replacing play panels, and resurfacing sports courts.
At the January 22 City Council meeting, the Parks and Recreation Department will request the Council to award the construction contract, approve Friends’ funding expenditures, and grant zoning regulation variances.
