[ARCHIVED] City Offices Closed for Christmas Holiday

Christmas Closure

City offices will be closed for the Christmas Holiday on Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 24. Offices will reopen on Monday, December 27.
The West University Place Recreation Center will be closed Friday, December 24 and Saturday, December 25.

December 23rd - Trash, recycling and yard waste will be collected per normal Thursday schedule.

December 24th – There will be no curbside trash, recycling, and yard waste collection. Recycling and yard waste normally scheduled for Friday will be collected on Wednesday, December 22. Please hold your trash until your next regularly scheduled day (Tuesday, December 28).

Christmas String Light Recycling - In conjunction with the Houston Zoo, the City will be accepting holiday string lights for recycling starting through January 15.
Drop off locations:
City Hall - 3800 University Blvd.
Public Works Office - 3826 Amherst St.
West U Recreation Center - 4210 Bellaire Blvd.

Christmas Tree Recycling - The city will be collecting Christmas trees for recycling between December 28 through January 15.
Please place your tree, free of any foreign materials or objects (bulbs, lights, stands, etc.), curbside on your regular trash day. These trees will be taken to a local composter and recycled as mulch. Please be aware that we will do our best to collect your Christmas trees on the day they are placed curbside, but occasionally due to the volume of trees, your tree may not be picked up the same day.

Trees not accepted for recycling - Trees that are flocked or have ornaments, lights, stands, or any other foreign objects WILL NOT be accepted for recycling. These trees will be collected with your normal household trash and disposed of in the landfill.

If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at 713-662-5839 or by email at pwinfo@westutx.gov.
