The City of West of West University Place Police Department received numerous reports of packages being stolen from front porches on Saturday, December 12th. Videos from home surveillance systems captured footage of the suspect taking the packages, along with the suspect’s description and vehicle associated with the criminal activity.
On Tuesday, December 15th, the Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division initiated an investigation on multiple cases and identified a suspect, who investigators discovered had an outstanding warrant for theft in Harris County.
Detectives located the vehicle and conducted a surveillance operation that led to the suspect being taken into custody and subsequently brought to the City of West University jail for further investigation and processing. Upon arrest, and inventory of the suspects’ vehicle, evidence was located linking the cases involving West U resident(s).
The suspect, identified as Ashley Michelle Beaird, was booked on the outstanding warrant and an additional charge of Mail Theft-< less than 10 addresses, filed by West University Police.
Investigators discovered that Ms. Beaird has a history of committing similar criminal acts with several prior arrests including theft, dating back to 2014. The defendant’s criminal history includes: Assault, Fail to Identify-Fugitive, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Carrying Weapon.
