Beginning Monday, June 9, Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and its contractors will begin mobilization to continue maintenance improvements along Poor Farm Ditch North, between University Blvd. and Bissonnet St. Work is anticipated to begin on Thursday, June 12, near Albans Rd., and progress south towards Georgetown St. over the coming weeks. Inclement weather could postpone work activities. This work will replace the sloped concrete walls along the west side of the channel and other misc. repairs necessary to ensure the structural integrity of Poor Farm Ditch.
To protect the Edloe Pathway, the contractor will place steel plates over sections of the walking track where equipment will be working. Additionally, HCFCD will be removing two Oak trees as well as other vegetation in the area that have compromised the existing concrete channel walls that are being replaced. The City's Arborist has evaluated the trees and approved their removal. Lastly, fence panels will be removed and replaced with temporary fencing to allow crews access to the ditch. The pathway will remain open, and residents are encouraged to walk safely and to watch for construction equipment and workers crossing.
Traffic control measures will be in place and could cause delays. Residents should exercise caution around the construction site and abide by all traffic laws.
This work is not in conjunction with the HCFCD planned improvements to the south side of the ditch between University Blvd. and Holcombe Blvd.
