On Monday, February 3, members of the West University Place City Council, city staff, Pierce Goodwin Alexander & Linville (PGAL), and Tegrity Contractors, the project’s general contractor, held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Public Works Maintenance Facility.
This project, the first phase of the City’s Facilities Master Plan, will construct a new 17,540-square-foot, two-story facility at the corner of Westpark Dr. and Dincans St. in the city of Houston. The new facility will house the following divisions: Streets and Drainage, Water and Sewer, Facilities Maintenance, Traffic Control, Fleet Maintenance, Solid Waste and Recycling, and Parks and Recreation Maintenance.
The current Public Works facilities, located at 3826 Amherst and Milton Streets, were built over 60 years ago, and no longer meet the demands for service or space necessary for staffing, equipment, and materials storage. Relocating the operational and maintenance facilities to this new site will allow for the opportunity to use the current space to be dedicated back for public purposes and community services. Tegrity crews have started mobilizing on-site, with demolition of the existing structures expected to begin during the week of February 10. The new facility is anticipated to be completed by February 2026.
The estimated cost for this project is $12.1 million. For more information about this project, please visit www.westutx.gov/phase1.
