On December 19, 2024, West University Place Police Department Officers responded to multiple reports of package thefts within the City. During the initial investigation, video surveillance of the suspect was obtained from several residences. Through the use of the Virtual Gate, the suspect vehicle was identified.
On December 22, 2024, Officers responded to a Virtual Gate notification of that same suspect vehicle entering the City of West University Place. Officers promptly located the car and conducted a traffic stop. At the time, the driver of the vehicle, Joshay Baldwin Jr., was taken into custody for multiple traffic violations.
A collaborative effort with WUPD's Criminal Investigations Division led to Joshay Baldwin Jr. being positively identified as the suspect seen in surveillance footage of the package thefts that had recently occurred.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office was contacted and accepted charges for Mail Theft on Baldwin Jr.
