John Montgomery has lived in West University Place for 17 years. He and his wife have four young children, and both feel strongly that West University Place’s combination of safety, parks, services, friendliness, and youth activities make it the best neighborhood in Texas in which to raise their family.
John is serving his second term on City Council and sits on the Parks and Recreation Board as the Council Liaison. John has voted to support initiatives that enhance the safety and small-town feel of West U including youth sports funding, park enhancements, sidewalk improvements, road safety signage, and increases in fire and police funding.
During his 25-year career in energy trading and finance, John has held leadership positions at Shell, Citibank, and Alta Resources. He has also owned a risk management advisory business. John received a BA from Emory University, and an MBA from Rice University.
A former amateur racecar driver and track instructor, John is more often found now playing with his kids in many of West U’s spectacular parks on weekends. Additionally, he and his wife enjoy travel, cooking, collecting wine, and walking their Airedale Terrier.
