John Montgomery has lived in West University Place for 17 years. He and his wife have three young children, and both feel strongly that West University Place’s combination of safety, parks, services, friendliness, and youth activities make it the best neighborhood in Texas in which to raise their family.
John serves as West University Place’s Mayor Pro Tempore and sits on the Parks and Recreation Board as the Council Liaison. John has voted to support initiatives that enhance the safety and small-town feel of West U including youth sports funding, park enhancements, sidewalk improvements, road safety signage, and increases in fire and police funding.
John is the Vice President of Risk and Commercial Development for a Houston-based, independent natural gas production company. During his 25-year career in energy trading and finance, he has held leadership positions and Shell and Citibank, as well as owning a risk management advisory business. John is registered with the Commodities Trading Futures Commission as a Commodities Trade Advisor, and has successfully passed the Series 3 National Commodities Futures Exam. John received a BA from Emory University, and an MBA from Rice University.
A former amateur racecar driver and track instructor, John is more often found now playing with his kids in many of West U’s spectacular parks on weekends. Additionally, he and his wife enjoy travel, cooking, collecting wine, and walking their Airedale Terrier.
