West U Update – Limited Operations for Parks & Rec to Resume June 1

West U begins it start back to the new normal with limited services in Parks & Recreation and Opening of Facilities to the Public on June 1 and the tentative reopening of Colonial Park Pool on June 8.


  • Recreation Center Lap Swimming: (25% occupancy)
    • Reservations required and will be in 45 minute blocks.
    • Please come prepared to swim as the locker rooms and showers are closed by the Governor’s order during this time.
  • Weight Room: (25% occupancy)
    • Reservations required and will be in 45 minute blocks.
  • Racquetball Courts:
    • Reservations required and will allow only one person per court or up to four members from the same household.
  • Recreational Programming:
    • Select recreational programming will begin on June 1.  For a complete listing of classes and camps, please visit starting May 26.

Reservations can be made up to 72 hours in advance and you can make one reservation per day.  Please visit or call 713-662-7420 to make a reservation starting Friday May 29.


Staff is working to complete the training for the new seasonal lifeguards in time for a June 8 opening, but if the training is delayed for any reason the pool opening may be delayed a few days.  We appreciate your patience during time.

  • Occupancy of 25%, reservations required.
  • Hours Monday – Sunday from 11:00 am – 6:30 pm.
    • 90 minute blocks with 30 minutes between blocks to allow for general cleaning.
  • In compliance with the Governor’s order the following features will remain closed or not available:
    • Children’s interactive water play feature,
    • The floating log and alligator,
    • Basketball rims are removed, and
    • Volleyball net is removed.
  • The new waterslide may not be open by June 8 because the inspections and certification process were not able to be completed due to Stay Home order/COVID-19.  Staff is working with the insurance authority and manufacturer to get the necessary inspections completed and slide certified prior to opening

Based upon current public health guidelines, those residents 65 years and older are highly encourage to shelter in-home and limit your contact with individuals.  For this reason, the Community Building and senior transportation services will not be available.

Senior Services is offering weekly telephone bingo games and other virtual program offerings.  Please visit for a complete listing of virtual offering for seniors.

City facilities will be reopening to the public following public health guidelines for facilities which currently limits occupancy to 25%.

  • City Hall, Police Department and Public Works:
    • Facilities will be open Monday – Friday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
  • Recreation Center:
    • Monday – Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm.
  • Community Building:
    • Facility will not be open to the general public.


  • Members of the public are highly encouraged to wear an appropriate face covering when entering City facilities.
  • Residents are still encouraged to continue conducting customer service transactions remotely when possible.
  • In accordance with Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-23, people over the age of 65 are still strongly encouraged to stay at home as much as possible and to maintain appropriate distance from any member of the household who has been out of the residence in the previous 14 days
