Mayoral Declaration of a Local State of Disaster Due to Public Health Emergency

On March 17, 2020, Mayor Bob Higley signed a Declaration of a Local State of Disaster Due to Public Health Emergency. The City of West U was covered under the earlier emergency declaration of Harris County in terms of funding and support, but the declaration specific to West U allows the City to be more responsive to developing issues and requirements from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This declaration also reiterates the CDC recommended size limit to a maximum of 10 people for gatherings in West U. The entire City Council will consider an extension of this declaration at their Council meeting on Monday March 23, 2020, which will be held remotely to comply with the size requirements and to minimize exposure of residents and employees.

If you have any questions, please contact City Secretary Thelma Gilliam at tgilliam@westutx.gov or 713-662-5813.
