It was a full house for the final gavel Monday, November 2, as West University Place Presiding Judge Candelario Elizondo retired after 30 years of service to the City of West U. Surrounded by his friends, coworkers and family, the judge was presented with a crystal gavel in appreciation of his work and dedication to the city.
Elizondo became an attorney in 1974, graduating from the South Texas College of Law, and practiced law with his wife in their firm, Elizondo and Elizondo. In March 1985 he began his West U career as an associate prosecutor, advancing to chief prosecutor before becoming an associate judge in 1990 and finally, the presiding judge in 2005.
Joining in his celebration were former Presiding Judge Michael Schneider and new West U Presiding Judge Robert Loper, former Associate Judge Gordon Dees and current Associate Judge Terry Yates, and former Court Clerk Iola Pickul and current Court Clerk Gaby Perez.
Court Clerk Gaby Perez and Judge Elizondo admire his crystal gavel.
