[ARCHIVED] Neighborhood Meeting with AT&T and Residents

January 21, 2019

Dear Residents,

On behalf of the City Council, I’d like to inform you that we will not be attending the community meeting arranged by AT&T with residents near their facility. Our attendance does not mean we do not care about this issue, but we are ensuring that we comply with the City’s ordinance and State law when it comes to issues of zoning and land use.

City Council and staff have been committed to following the legally required rezone process throughout the duration of the issue to minimize the City’s exposure. By law, every property owner has the right to request a rezone, and the City is required to follow an established process to review that request. The City has completed five (5) of the six (6) steps in the review of the AT&T rezone request.

We encourage neighbors to discuss issues and become involved so that you can make an informed decision, but since this issue is before the Zoning and Planning Commission and City Council, we are unable to participate in the neighbor to neighbor discussion. Our role is to remain unbiased in the review and consideration of the application.

If you would like more information or have any questions regarding the rezone process, please visit If you have any questions, please contact the Assistant City Manager / Public Works Director Dave Beach at or 713-662-5840.

Thank you,

Susan V. Sample
