[ARCHIVED] City of West University Place Honors Star Citizens


The City of West University Place hosted the 2017 Star Citizens Award luncheon celebration on May 10.  This year’s recipients were the 2017 Park Lovers’ Ball Chairs, Sami and Jud Morrison and Peyton and Alex Popp; the 2015 and 2016 Fathers & Flashlights Chairs, Kelly and Sean Butler, Kristine and Joaquin Martinez and Kara and Curt Schaefer; and Anna Stewart, Member of the Board of Directors of Friends of West University Place Parks Fund, Inc. 

Together the Park Lovers’ Ball Chairs and the Fathers & Flashlights Chairs have raised close to $600,000 for Friends’ over the last two years.  The Morrison and Popp families and the Butler, Martinez and Schaefer families have been very active with the Friends Board for many years.  These busy families also support the City of West U through various volunteer roles at West U Elementary, West U Little League, West U Softball as well as through their Churches other non-profit organizations within Houston.  Anna Stewart, as a Friends board member has worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the last four plus years to ensure great success of the Park Lovers’ Balls as well as the other events facilitated by Friends throughout the year. 

Mayor Susan Sample presented the awards to the proud recipients. City Council Members, Bob Kelly and Mardi Turner, and City Manager, Chris Peifer, attended the awards luncheon at Cyclone Anaya’s in Rice Village as well as Susan White, Parks and Recreation Director, Donna LaMond, Executive Director of Friends, Mark Prescott, Executive Chair and members of the Friends Board.
