Weekly Crime Report 08/21/2020 - 08/28/2020

DateCase  Offense  Summary 

At 12:02 PM, an officer was dispatched to the lobby of the West University Place Police Department to meet with the victim of a forgery. The victim said unknown persons took a check he mailed and erased the original recipient and put a different name and amount.

Police Information Report At 12:14 PM, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of Swarthmore in reference to a verbal disturbance.
20-P-0393Evading/Burglary of Motor Vehicle
At approximately 2:55 AM, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 6500 block of Community in regards to a burglary of a motor vehicle in progress. Upon arrival, officers made contact with subject riding a bicycle. During this time the subject kept riding his bicycle away from the officers while he was given lawful commands to stop. The reportee was able to give positive identification of the subject as the suspect she observed rummaging in the vehicle. The suspect (Richard Howard Mitchell) was arrested for evading on foot.

08/21/202020-P-0394Police Information Report

At approximately 11:09 AM, a police officer was dispatched to 3800 University, in regards to meeting with a resident who was having problems with his brother. It was determined that no crime had occurred and a police information report was generated.

20-P-0395Identity TheftAt approximately 11:52 AM, an officer was dispatched to the West University Place Police Department, 3800 University Blvd., in regard to a call-in report of identity theft. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an unknown person had utilized the reportee’s personal identifying information in order to file fraudulent income tax return paperwork. A report for identity theft was generated.
20-P-0396Identity Theft

An officer was dispatched to the station regarding a report of fraud. It was reported that someone used the victim’s personal information to acquire an SBA loan. An identity theft report was generated.

20-P-0397Weapons ViolationAt approximately 1:30 AM, an officer observed a vehicle stationary, facing northbound at a red light located in the intersection of 6800 Kirby. During this time the officer observed the vehicle failing to display a front license plate. The vehicle turned west on W. Holcombe, where the Officer observed it to have a defective license plate light in the 2800 block of W. Holcombe. A traffic stop was then conducted in the 6700 block of Vanderbilt. After further investigation, it was discovered the driver was in possession of a loaded handgun along with marijuana. The driver (Deandre Markese Bishop) was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Identity TheftAt approximately 2:18 PM, a police officer was dispatched to 3800 University, in regards to an identity theft call, which had already occurred. The victim stated an unknown person(s) used his personal information to transfer money out of his bank account. Information was gathered and a report was generated.
08/23/202020-P-0399Possession of Narcotics

At approximately 9:00 PM, an officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 5900 block of Buffalo Speedway at a high rate of speed (42 mph / 30 mph zone). A traffic stop was conducted in the 6300 block of Buffalo Speedway. After further investigation it was discovered that the driver was in possession of several different types of narcotics. The driver (Kemaria Eman Reese Wright) was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

20-P-0400Burglary of Motor VehicleAt 1:31 PM, an officer was dispatched to the 6300 block of Academy in regards to a burglary of a motor vehicle that already occurred. Upon arrival and through investigation, it was discovered an unknown suspect entered an unsecured vehicle and took items without consent. The incident occurred at 11:13 AM.
08/24/202020-P-0401ForgeryAn officer took a report of forgery.  The victim said that a check that was placed in an external mail box was then forged with a new name and cashed at an unknown Bank of America location.  Telephone report.
08/25/202020-P-0402Vehicle TheftAt 12:34 PM, an officer was dispatched to the 6500 block of Wakeforest for a report of an auto theft. The victim said his vehicle was taken from the location between about 12:15 PM and 12:30 PM.
08/26/202020-P-0403Public Intoxication At 3:35 AM, an officer with the West University Place Police Department observed a vehicle partially blocking a driveway in the 2600 block of Sunset. The officer conducted a welfare check on the driver who was asleep in the driver’s seat with the door open. After further investigation, the driver was cited for public intoxication and released to a responsible party.
