Wayne Franklin is serving his
first term as Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilmember. He has lived in
West U since 2009. He served as an active member of the West U Parks and
Recreation Board from 2013 to 2017, where he was involved with improvements to
Colonial Pool and also the fitness course and track around the West U
Wayne was born in Seattle, WA but was
raised in the Bay Area of Northern California, in a town called Orinda.
He graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, MA with degrees in
Political Science and Chemistry. He then continued on to medical school
at UCLA and did his residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at
Duke University. He moved to Houston in 2001 to train in Adult Cardiology
and Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s
Hospital, and St. Luke’s/Texas Heart Institute. He has been part of the
Baylor College of Medicine Cardiology Faculty since 2006. He has held
several leadership roles at Baylor, including Chief of Cardiology at the Texas
Children’s Hospital Pavilion for Women since 2013 and as a Faculty Senator from
2014 to 2017.
Wayne and his wife Rachel have been
married since 2004 and have two sons, Lionel and Hudson.
