Movies in the Park
Cooler temps and fall colors are right around the corner, which means Movies in the Park is almost here. The City of West University Place Parks & Recreation Department will host two Friday night family-friendly movies at Colonial Park, 4130 Byron.
Movies begin shortly after 7 pm, once the sun has gone down. Admission is complimentary.
October 19 showing: Coco (Rated PG), aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.

Full Moon Fest
It's time for the sixth annual Full Moon Fest celebration at Colonial Park, 4130 Byron, hosted by the West U Parks and Recreation Department. This spook-tacular event, to be held on Friday, October 19 at 5:30pm, will be a family-friendly evening of pumpkin decorating, costume contests, face painting, and more. The costume contest will be for different age groups, so the whole family can come in their spookiest attire. Pre-registration for costume contest is required, and participants must be West U residents. Registration is open and can be done online at www.westutx.gov/reg, or in person at the Recreation Center. Online registration does require an online account, but don't let that scare you, as it's easy to create one. Please note it can take 1-3 business days for approval, so please plan accordingly so you don't miss the deadline! Registration closes October, 16. There will be no on-site registration.
Costume Contest Registration Instructions
The activity number to sign up for the event is 307812. Just enter that number in the activity search box and it will show the different categories to pick from. The categories are ages 0-2, 3-5, 6-9, and group contest. Although registration is required, the event is complimentary. Spots are limited so sign up now!

Colonial Park West End
Colonial Park West End is set to officially open on Wednesday, September 19. New this year is the ability to rent the deck closest to Case St. Inflatables are not allowed. The rental rates are below:
|$50 per hour (minimum of 2 hours)

Registration Open for the West U Halloween Dash 5k and Kids Fun Run
Registration is now open for the Eighth Annual King & Spalding West U Halloween Dash 5k Race and Texas Children's Hospital Kids' Fun Run, which will take place on Saturday, October 27, starting at 8 AM.
The event consists of a 5k, chip-timed race along the flat and fast streets of West U, and non-competitive, 1 mile kids' fun run. New for 2018, race organizers added a stroller/dog division to the 5k race.
To help get runners ready, Avenu Fitness has put together a downloadable training program, available on the registration site.
"Costumes are optional but are a big part of the "fun" in the fun run," said event organizer Michele Marvin. "It's a great opportunity for children and adults to show off their creativity, and don't forget to dress up your dog, if he or she is participating."
Judges will award costume contest prized for Best Female, Best Male, Best Couple, and Best Child. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the top three male and female 5k race finishers in the following age groups:
- 14 & Under
- 15 - 19
- 20 - 29
- 30 - 39
- 40 - 49
- 50 - 59
There will also be prizes for the overall top male and female finishers in the stroller/dog division.
Registration for the 5k Race is $25 and $20 for the Kids Fun Run. Prices increase October 1. To register, visit www.westutx.gov/funrun. All proceeds benefit the West University Place Parks and Recreation Department.
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Come one, come all! Get into the holiday spirit with the 30th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 3 at 5:30pm. The event is presented by the City of West University Place Parks and Recreation Department and will be located in front of the Community Building, 6104 Auden.
Activities will start at 5:30pm and the ceremony of the lighting of the tree will start at 6:00pm. Make sure to bring your cameras along to take pictures with Santa at the end of the ceremony.
